With funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Transportation Authority, and the Driggs Urban Renewal Agency, the City of Driggs Idaho (pop. 1,660) plans to transform over 13,000 square feet of public space in its city center into an historic arts, visitor, recreation and transit center. Much of this work can be traced back to a Citizens' Institute on Rural Design workshop in 2004.
Two recent articles describe the community process and partnerships behind this transformation. For more information read "Project to Transform Driggs City Center" in the Teton Valley News and "Not Just Another Point on the Map: The Artful Reinvention of Driggs Idaho" in NEA Arts Magazine.
